BOX ELDER BUGS
Metro Detroit Box Elder Bug Removal – Get Rid of Box Elders
The box elder bug prefer the flowers and seeds of the female box elder tree but does not cause serious injury. When abundant, it also feeds on ash and maple. In the fall adults seek sheltered overwintering quarters and sometimes invade homes. In the spring they migrate back to the host plant where they lay reddish eggs on the bark and leaves or fruit. Immature bugs known as nymphs hatch from the eggs and feed all summer. These bright red nymphs molt several times to become red and black adults in late summer.
This pest may be extremely abundant in the spring and fall both inside and outside the home. If you see box elder bugs in the spring or fall call me for advise or contact a pest management professional.
